ASDA, fully automated distribution centre I WARRINGTON

PROJECT BIO

This highly automated 600,000 sq. ft ambient logistics building is the first of its kind in the ASDA distribution network, boasting fully automated auto storage, pick and retrieval system and robot packing stations by Vanderlande Industries Ltd. When up to full capacity, the 27.5 acre site at Omega South, Warrington, will distribute five billion cases of produce to its network of stores each year.

Tate Consulting provided full M&E design services, fire engineering and MHE (material handling equipment) integration.

Using our unique approach for this £100m project, we engineered out a £980,000 fire wall from the design and successfully negotiated the sprinkler strategy with Wal-Mart US and insurers, saving a further £1.5m in capital expenditure.

When the client identified an overall £10 million overspend on the whole project, Tate Consulting worked with the automation provider and other suppliers to re-engineer the initial design solution. This made a very significant contribution towards bringing the project back within budget.
